Most of the voice fixes started with a measurement. Below are the numbers before and after, how the tests run, and what changed in each desktop release.
Voice
Measurements
Voice lost with every core busy
Before
28–45%
After
1.4%
In a voice room the desktop app runs one step above normal priority.
in 0.4.36
Time the voice gate stayed open for fans, music, breathing and clicks
Before
10–100%
After
0–2%
Besides the level, the gate now checks the SNR that noise suppression reports for each frame.
in 0.4.30
Voice frames removed by noise suppression in a noisy room
Before
25–33%
After
0–1%
Noise suppression zeroed frames with a low SNR. The threshold was lowered.
in 0.4.27
Processor use with the microphone off, as a share of one core
Before
16.9%
After
5.6%
Noise suppression stops while you are muted. It keeps running for push-to-talk so the first word is not clipped.
in 0.4.37
Music bot moving on to the next song
Before
~1 s
After
~50 ms
The start of the next song is fetched ahead. The first song starts about 1.5 s after the command reaches the bot.
in 0.4.23
Music bot level moving with the bass
Before
2.0 dB
After
0.7 dB
Bots are levelled apart from speech, by their mean power over a few seconds.

We took these on our own computers, before and after each fix. Other hardware and connections may give different numbers.
How we work
Measure first
A problem like lost words or voice breaking up under a game load gets recorded and measured first. The fix goes into a release once the number improves.
Microphone pace check
With another voice program holding the microphone, Anten’s microphone chain ran at 75% of real time. If the send rate or the chain’s clock falls behind for 4 seconds, the chain is rebuilt. It shows in the connection details.
Reverted changes
A change that breaks something else in the measurements gets reverted. When we tried a floor for reported packet loss, the browser started sending full packets in silence too, which broke the speaking light and the AFK move. The setting was removed.
Tests
Tests and checks
Tests
Server tests run against a real PostgreSQL database with the race detector on. The web client’s type check is kept at zero errors and zero warnings.
Tests on every push
Every push runs format checks, static analysis, tests against PostgreSQL, and the web client’s check, tests and build. Dependencies are pinned to exact versions.
The server cannot read content
By default, voice and video are encrypted frame by frame, and messages and files in encrypted rooms are encrypted on the device. The server relays and stores them without being able to read them. Admin screens show metadata only.
No homemade crypto
Encryption uses vetted libraries only. The bot library’s encryption code is checked against the web client’s on every push.
Test counts as of 18 October 2026: server 149, web client 99, desktop app 15, bot library and music bot 22.
Release notes
Desktop releases
The desktop app gets its updates from the server it connects to, and every update is signed.
0.4.38
Latest
Improved
On the member card the name and status start right below the banner, and the picture overlaps it.
Less space between the name and the banner.
0.4.37
Improved
With the microphone off (muted, deafened or not allowed to speak), advanced noise suppression stops. We measured processor use go from 16.9% to 5.6% of a core. It keeps running for push-to-talk, so the first word is not clipped.
Live and streaming marks are in the theme’s green with a glowing dot. In the room list a small screen icon sits next to whoever is streaming, leaving room for the name.
Someone you muted only for yourself is dimmed in the room list, with a muted speaker.
A long status on the member card wraps to up to three lines.
Fixed
A room can be moved under another place only if you may create rooms there. Whoever made a temporary room can sort it but cannot move it somewhere they could not have made it.
0.4.36
New
Clicking someone in a voice room opens a small card beside them: who they are, what they are doing, their volume. If they share their screen, the stream can be watched from there.
Server groups can be given and taken from the right-click menu. The profile card shows groups as coloured tags, removable there.
Bot pictures can be changed in the server settings. The status panel shows media traffic in and out since start.
Improved
In a voice room Anten’s processes run one step above normal priority. With every core busy, the voice lost went from 28–45% to 1.4% in our measurement. If noise suppression cannot keep up, it switches to a lighter method for 10 minutes.
The music bot comes through in stereo, and its level no longer moves with the bass.
Fixed
In-game overlay settings were not saved.
The room list grew sideways with long names.
Focusing on one stream cut off the bottom of the picture.
0.4.35
Fixed
The in-game overlay shows a bot’s microphone the way the room list does; a bot playing music looked muted.
The overlay and the room list now always show the same state.
0.4.34
New
Microphone pace check. With another voice program holding the same device, the microphone chain fell behind real time and part of the voice never went out. Anten now spots this within seconds and rebuilds the chain.
The connection details show the microphone’s pace and how many times the chain was rebuilt.
Fixed
Reverted a setting that made the client send full voice packets in silence too. The speaking light lit up for nothing and the AFK move did not work.
0.4.33
New
Several icons can be selected in the icon library and deleted with one confirmation.
Fixed
Deleting a single icon asks for a clear confirmation. Fixed the layout of icon cards.
0.4.32
Fixed
Cancelling the file picker also closed the settings window.
Windows close only when they themselves are cancelled, for example with Esc.
0.4.31
New
Icon library. In the server settings icons can be uploaded in bulk (drag and drop works), searched and renamed, and each shows where it is used. The same picture is kept once.
Rooms, server groups and now channel groups pick their icons from the library. Managing icons has its own permission.
Improved
Small icons, 16 pixels for example, are kept at their own size, losslessly, and shown without scaling up.
0.4.30
New
The in-game overlay can go in any of the four corners and can show only who is speaking. Profile pictures show too.
Improved
The voice gate opens only for speech; fans, hum, music, breathing and clicks no longer open it. In our measurement the time it stayed open for nothing went from 10–100% to 0–2%.
Automatic gain is now Anten’s own code: it runs after noise suppression and measures speech only. It never raises the noise and leaves the system’s microphone level alone.
Levelling of incoming voices follows a louder sound quickly and a quieter one slowly, so nothing booms when someone joins or the music gets louder.
0.4.29
New
In-game overlay (Windows). When the window in front is a game, a transparent window in its corner shows who is in your voice room and who is speaking. Clicks pass through to the game, and the game itself is not touched. It can be turned off in the settings.
A sound plays when someone in your room starts or stops sharing their screen. Clicking a streaming member in the room list opens the stream.
Improved
The speaking light follows what the speaker sends. Noise, quiet voices or lost packets no longer light it.
Changing the music bot’s volume no longer cuts the music. A song’s audio address is tried before it plays and fetched again if it does not open.
Fixed
The taskbar showed the wrong icon after an update.
0.4.28
New
Short sounds play when the microphone, sound, camera or screen share is turned on or off. They follow the sound cue setting.
Symbol keys can be shortcuts too, shown with your keyboard layout’s character.
Compact layout for messages: Cozy or Compact under Appearance and language.
Improved
New sounds for direct messages and mentions.
Showing the game you play moved under Privacy and security. An empty one-to-one conversation stays out of the other person’s list until someone writes.
0.4.27
New
A shortcut can be a single key or the middle and side mouse buttons. The settings have a Check for updates button.
Right-clicking a room opens that room’s menu.
Improved
Words got lost in noise: noise suppression wiped frames with a very low signal entirely. With the threshold fixed, the frames cut went from 25–33% to 0–1% in our measurement.
The voice gate opens and closes more gently. Incoming voices are levelled per person and music bots brought down to speech level. Voice is sent at up to 128 kbps.
Fixed
The join sound did not play on the first join.
Short syllables did not light the speaking light.
Others dropped out for a moment when someone joined.
0.4.26
New
Message formatting: bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, code, quotes and spoilers that open on click.
Server emoji, stickers and polls. In encrypted rooms these are encrypted too.
Pokes, temporary rooms that are deleted once empty, room icons and profile banners.
Tic-tac-toe and rock-paper-scissors in voice rooms. Moves go only between the two players, encrypted.
Cards, buttons and menus in bot messages. The music bot got new commands, a “now playing” panel with buttons, and picking from search results.
Activity status (the game you play, if you turn it on) and GIF search through the server. Link previews are a server setting, off by default and only in unencrypted rooms.
Shortcuts for the camera, screen sharing and leaving the room.
0.4.25
New
Sessions: the settings list your account’s open sessions, which can be ended one by one or all at once. Full browser details and addresses are not kept.
Camera preview. It opens only when asked and is not sent anywhere.
Fixed
The join sound on the first join was swallowed because it did not wait for noise suppression to load.
0.4.24
Improved
Settings in one window: My profile, Privacy and security, Voice, Video, Notifications, Shortcuts, Appearance and language, and the desktop app’s settings.
A reply to the message right above it shows no quote line. Replies to you get a thin bar at the edge, and bot commands show as tags.
The lock that marks a message as encrypted shows on hover. Warnings always show.
Earlier releases
0.4.0 – 0.4.2312 – 15 October 2026
A new look, moderation tools and bots.
The Gökyüzü look: panels on a dotted sky, by night or by day. The desktop app draws its own window buttons.
Automatic updates from your own server, signed by the publisher.
Audit log, timed mutes, server nicknames, an @everyone permission, sorting rooms by dragging, an AFK room and a server status screen.
Read state and room notification choices sync across devices. Added an English interface; advanced noise suppression became the default.
Bot accounts, a bot library that also works in encrypted rooms, bot commands, webhooks and the music bot.
Security review and dependency updates. The last address of members not seen for a long time is forgotten. An identity can become a password account.
0.1.0 – 0.3.09 – 12 October 2026
The first Windows app.
Push-to-talk that works outside the window, a tray icon and an installer.
Screen sharing sends an app’s or the whole system’s sound, without Anten’s own. The screen or window is picked in one step.
Keys are protected by your computer user account’s vault. A forced shutdown no longer loses the session.
Changeable shortcuts, a server list and a taskbar badge for waiting mentions.
Large files upload as a stream instead of being held in memory.
